CONFERENCE MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of the 2018 Envisioning LiberaT.I.O.N. Conference is to bring students of color together to share narratives, redefine "liberation" through an intersectional framework and discover ways to help one another practice hope and healing within communities of color on campus and beyond.
Goals for the Conference:
- Attendees will walk away with a collaborative understanding of liberation, informed by the narratives and positionalities of their peers, workshop facilitators, guest speakers and personal lived experiences
- The conference will focus on intersectionality and inclusion, taking into account that there is no single, monolithic narrative of the "student of color" experience. It will highlight issues of race, social identities, power, systems of oppression, education, expressions of identity, self-reflection and collective resistance
- To promote self-care
- To create a brave space for critical dialogue, where people can expand their understanding of coalition-building, what it looks like and how it can be achieved
- To empower students of color at Skidmore College
